  • Spouse Work Authorization: Dependent visa holders can work freely in the UK, except as a doctor in training. However, if your dependent spouse secures sponsorship with a Tier 2 licensed employer, they cannot switch to a Tier 2 General Visa within the country.

UK Student Visa Requirements:

  1. Valid Passport: Ensure your passport has a validity date that extends at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the UK.
  2. Proof of Funds: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your living costs during your course. The funds should be maintained for 28 days and include tuition fees and living expenses.
  3. CAS Reference Number: Obtain the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number from your university.
  4. Supporting Documents: Provide necessary documents used to obtain the CAS, such as educational certificates and color photographs.
  5. Health Requirements: Undergo a tuberculosis screening if required.

Post-Study Work Options:

  1. Tier 2 General Visa: International students with a job offer worth at least GBP 20,800 per year can switch from a Tier 4 Visa to a Tier 2 General Visa, which has a validity period of up to five years.
  2. Work Experience and Permanent Residence: The work experience gained during your post-study work can contribute to your eligibility for permanent residence in the UK. To qualify, your annual income must be at least GBP 35,000.

Bringing Dependent Family Members to the UK:

  1. Eligibility for Dependents: Your dependents can accompany you if you are sponsored by a higher education institution for a Level 7 course with a duration of 9 months or more, or if you are doing a government-sponsored course with a duration of more than 6 months.
  2. Dependent Visa Application: Dependents can apply for a dependent visa at the same time as the UK student visa applicant or after the student has obtained the result of their visa application.
  3. Financial Requirements: Dependent visa applicants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover their cost of living in the UK, which is £680 per month, up to a maximum of 9 months.
